PROVIDING EVERY PATIENT WITH COMFORT AND PERSONAL CARE ON THEIR JOURNEY TO DENTAL HEALTH

SEDATION DENTISTRY

Some patients are especially anxious about visiting the dentist due to negative past experiences, scary stories from friends or family, or just apprehension of visiting a new place filled with strangers. The child-friendly atmosphere and gentle touch provided by Drs. Jackson and Moore goes a long way in soothing nervous little ones, but some children need a little extra help. Sedation dentistry is the general term used for all of the relaxation techniques we utilize.

NITROUS OXIDE

Nitrous oxide is a gas given to the patient through a mask that is placed on their nose. It will not cause the child to go to sleep but is used as a relaxation aid. Nitrous oxide is recognized by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as a "safe and effective technique to reduce anxiety, produce analgesia, and enhance effective communication between a patient and healthcare provider." Nitrous oxide has a very fast onset, as well as recovery. Your child can return to school or to other regular activities after treatment.

ORAL SEDATION

Oral sedation is used to decrease a child's level of anxiety as well as any discomfort associated with dental treatment. A variety of safe, time-tested sedation medications are available. Dr. Jackson or Dr. Moore will choose the most appropriate combination of medications for your child's case. The medications may cause the child to feel drowsy, and in some cases will have an amnesic effect.
